Closed-Front 4-Post Lift Built for General Service Shops

The Challenger 4P14 Series is a 14,000 lb capacity closed-front 4-post lift designed for automotive service shops that need a reliable, space-efficient drive-on platform. The closed-front design with louvered approach ramps provides a low drive-on angle while keeping the working area contained to one end of the bay. Powered by a cable drive system with a 2HP motor, the 4P14 delivers dependable lifting performance for daily general service, brake jobs, exhaust work, tire rotations, and undercarriage inspections on cars, trucks, and SUVs up to 7 tons.

Two Lengths for Different Bay Sizes and Wheelbases

The 4P14 Series is available in two configurations to match your shop layout. The standard 4P14EFX measures 20’5¾” in overall length with 196 inches between columns, handling wheelbases from 89¾ to 182½ inches — covering most passenger cars, crossovers, and standard-cab pickups. The XL extended 4P14XFX stretches to 22’9¼” with 223½ inches between columns, accommodating wheelbases up to 210 inches for full-size trucks, crew cabs, and commercial vans.

Performance and Safety Features

Both models feature 20-inch wide runways with two width positions (40 or 43 inches between runways) to accommodate different vehicle tread widths. The air-operated lock release system — powered by 90-120 PSI shop air — provides single-point lock engagement for safe, secure positioning throughout the full 78-inch rise height. The 2HP power unit raises the full 14,000 lb rated capacity to maximum height in approximately 75 seconds, and the entire system is ALI certified for third-party verified safety compliance.

Installation and Bay Requirements

The 4P14 requires a minimum 4-inch reinforced concrete slab rated to 3,500 PSI, a dedicated 20-amp circuit (208-230V single phase), and compressed air supply of 90-120 PSI for the air-operated lock release. The standard 4P14EFX fits in a 14’ × 25’ bay, while the XL 4P14XFX requires a 12’ × 28’ bay. Both models stand 90½ inches (7’6½”) tall at the columns, so plan for adequate ceiling clearance above that for lighting and overhead obstructions. The lift is rated for indoor use only in environments between 41°F and 104°F.

Before You Buy

Concrete Slab Requirements

Requires minimum 4-inch reinforced concrete rated to 3,500 PSI, cured at least 28 days. Verify your slab thickness and strength before purchasing — retrofitting concrete is expensive and disruptive to shop operations.

Compressed Air Required

The air-operated lock release requires 90-120 PSI clean, dry compressed air. Ensure your shop compressor meets this requirement before installation. The lift cannot operate its lock system without compressed air.

Choose the Right Length

The standard 4P14EFX handles wheelbases up to 182½ inches. If you service crew cab trucks, full-size SUVs, or commercial vans, the XL 4P14XFX extends to 210 inches. Measure your most common long-wheelbase vehicles before ordering.

Electrical Requirements

Requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit on 208-230V single phase power. Have a licensed electrician verify your electrical service and install the dedicated circuit before your lift arrives.

Indoor Use Only

The 4P14 is rated for indoor use only in environments between 41°F and 104°F. Do not install in uncovered outdoor locations or unheated buildings that drop below freezing.

Professional Installation Recommended

While the 4P14 ships with a complete IOM manual, professional installation by a qualified lift technician is strongly recommended. Proper anchor bolt torque, hydraulic connections, and lock system calibration are critical for safe operation.

Free Freight Shipping

Ships free via freight carrier to commercial addresses in the continental United States (48 states). Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam are excluded from free freight — contact us for a shipping quote to those locations.

Unloading Requirements

This lift ships curbside via full-size freight truck. You are responsible for offloading at your location. A forklift, tractor with forks, or loading dock must be available on-site at the time of delivery. The carrier will not unload the freight.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 4P14 Series handles any vehicle up to 14,000 lbs. The standard 4P14EFX accommodates wheelbases from 89¾ to 182½ inches, covering most sedans, crossovers, SUVs (RAV4, CR-V, Highlander), and standard-cab pickups (F-150, Silverado 1500). The XL 4P14XFX extends to 210-inch wheelbases for crew cab trucks, full-size SUVs (Suburban, Expedition EL), and commercial vans like the Ford Transit.
The main difference is length. The 4P14EFX is 20’5¾” long with 196 inches between columns, fitting in a 14’ × 25’ bay and handling wheelbases up to 182½ inches. The 4P14XFX is 22’9¼” long with 223½ inches between columns, requiring a 12’ × 28’ bay but accommodating wheelbases up to 210 inches. Both share the same 14,000 lb capacity, 78-inch rise, 20-inch runways, and 2HP motor.
A closed-front 4-post lift has approach ramps on only one end. You drive on from the front and the rear of the lift is enclosed by the columns and crossmembers. This is different from an open-end (drive-through) design where you can enter and exit from either end. The closed-front design provides a more contained work area and can be positioned against a wall, but vehicles must back off or the lift must be positioned for pull-through access.
The 4P14 requires a minimum 4-inch thick reinforced concrete slab with a compressive strength of at least 3,500 PSI, cured for a minimum of 28 days. The slab must be level and free from cracks or seams at anchor bolt locations. Anchor bolts must avoid existing rebar, conduit, or in-floor utilities. If your slab does not meet these specifications, consult a structural engineer before purchasing.
Installation requires a level concrete floor meeting the specifications above, a dedicated 20-amp electrical circuit (208-230V, single phase, 60Hz), and compressed air supply of 90-120 PSI for the air-operated lock release. The standard model needs a 14’ × 25’ bay; the XL needs a 12’ × 28’ bay. Column height is 90½ inches (7’6½”), so ensure adequate ceiling clearance above that. The lift is rated for indoor use only in environments between 41°F and 104°F.
Regular maintenance includes inspection of cables for wear, fraying, or damage, lubrication of all moving parts and pivot points per the IOM schedule, hydraulic fluid level checks, and visual inspection of the air-operated lock release mechanism. Check runway surfaces for damage or excessive wear. Inspect approach ramps for proper alignment and secure attachment. Annual professional inspection is recommended, and the IOM provides a complete maintenance schedule and checklist.
The 2HP power unit raises the full 14,000 lb rated capacity to maximum height in approximately 75 seconds. Lighter vehicles will generally reach full height slightly faster. Descent is controlled by a hydraulic flow valve for smooth, consistent lowering speed. The lift requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit on 208-230V single phase power.
Yes. The 4P14 uses an air-operated lock release system that requires clean, dry compressed air at 90-120 PSI. This is a standard shop air requirement — most automotive service facilities already have a compressor that meets this specification. Without compressed air, you cannot operate the lock release mechanism.
The Challenger website lists the 4P14 as a general service lift with optional alignment capability. Contact us for details on available alignment kits and compatibility with your specific 4P14 model. Note that alignment accessories typically require additional floor space and may affect bay size requirements.
The 4P14 features 20-inch wide runways. The spacing between runways can be set to either 40 or 43 inches to accommodate different vehicle tread widths. This two-position adjustment covers the range from compact cars to full-size trucks. The runways stand 7¼ inches off the ground, providing a low approach angle for easy drive-on.
The columns stand 90½ inches (7’6½”) tall. You need this height plus additional clearance for the tallest vehicle you plan to lift at maximum rise (78 inches), plus room for lighting and overhead obstructions. The spec sheet recommends ceiling height of at least 78 inches plus your tallest vehicle height. For most shops, a minimum 12-foot ceiling is recommended.
Yes. The 4P14 Series is ALI certified, meaning it has been independently tested and verified to meet the safety and performance standards established by the Automotive Lift Institute. This certification is important for insurance compliance, OSHA requirements, and overall shop safety standards.
