2-Post Lift Installation
Overhead and baseplate, symmetric and asymmetric, 8,000 to 20,000 lbs. Anchored, plumbed, and tested under load across New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and New York.
A 2-post install is straightforward but unforgiving. The columns anchor directly into your slab. If the slab isn't right or the columns aren't plumb, you'll feel it every time you use the lift.
We handle the whole job: slab and ceiling check, delivery on our own equipment, installation to manufacturer torque specs, electrical, testing, and a walkthrough. We sell Atlas and Challenger, and we install other brands too, including BendPak, Rotary, Forward, and Mohawk. See all of our lift installation services.
What We Check Before We Drill
- Concrete: 4 inches of reinforced concrete is the usual minimum, but it varies by model. We verify thickness, PSI, rebar, and cure.
- Ceiling: overhead models need 11'10" to 12', baseplate models go down to 9'6", and heavy-duty lifts (12,000 lbs and up) usually need 13' to 15', though low-ceiling models like the Challenger CL12A-LC fit at 12'.
- Electrical: most 2-posts need a dedicated 220V circuit. We spec the exact breaker and wire gauge.
- Bay layout: column placement accounts for arm swing, door clearance, and the bays next to it.
Overhead or Baseplate: Ceiling Clearance
| Style | Min. Ceiling | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead | 11'10" to 12' | Commercial shops, high-ceiling garages |
| Baseplate | 9'6" to 10' | Home garages, low-clearance buildings |
| Heavy-duty overhead | 13' to 15' (12' for low-ceiling models) | 12,000 to 20,000 lb capacity, trucks and fleet |
How the Install Goes
Anchor drilling, then column setting (plumb and square), then the crossbeam or baseplate, the power unit, hydraulic and electrical hookup, and a full cycle and test. A straightforward bay takes half a day. With concrete or electrical prep it's a full day.
Before we leave, the lift is cycled, run through its lock positions, equalized, and tested under load. You get a walkthrough on operation, maintenance schedule, and safety procedures, and the documentation stays with the lift.
2-Post Models We Install
Atlas: BP8000 (baseplate, 8K), 9KOHX (overhead, 9K), 9KBPX (baseplate, 9K), and Platinum PVL10 (10K, ALI certified).
Challenger: CL10 Versymmetric series and CL12A (12K, adjustable column). Quick Cycle, Dual-Point Controls, and EV-Ready packages are available.
Lifting trucks, cargo vans, or fleet vehicles? Heavy-duty 2-posts from 12,000 to 20,000 lbs (Challenger LE12, E15, CL16, and CL20; Atlas PVL15 and PV-15PX) have their own ceiling, power, and slab requirements; see heavy-duty and fleet lift installation.
We also supply and install adapter sets for 2-post lifts, including truck adapters, SUV adapters, and EV battery-pack adapters.
2-Post Installs
After the Install
2-post lifts rise on equalization cables that keep both sides moving at the same rate. Cables stretch over time and eventually fray, so we check cable tension on every inspection and replace them when they're worn, not when they snap. See lift inspection and repair.
