9,000 lb Cable-Driven Home Storage & Light-Duty Service Lift

The Challenger CL4P9S is a 9,000 lb capacity cable-driven 4-post lift designed for home garage vehicle storage and light-duty service. As the standard-width model in the CL4P9 lineup, it provides a meaningful step up from the 7,000 lb CL4P7 with larger columns, wider base plates for increased stability, and additional capacity for full-size trucks, SUVs, and heavier vehicles. The single hydraulic cylinder with synchronized cable system delivers smooth, even lifting across both runways, and 67¾ inches of drive-under clearance in the top locked position lets you park a second vehicle underneath with more headroom than the 7K model.

Flexible Installation & Dual Motor Options

Like all Challenger Home Storage lifts, the CL4P9S offers free-standing or bolt-to-floor installation with ALI/ETL certification maintained either way. This makes it a practical choice for rental properties or garages where permanent floor modifications aren't desirable. Choose between the standard 1HP 115V motor (plugs into a standard 20A household outlet) or the optional 2HP 230V motor for faster 60-second rise times. Adjustable lock ladders accommodate uneven garage floors, and 14 lock positions from floor level to maximum rise provide precise height control for both storage and service applications.

Built for Heavier Vehicles

The CL4P9S is specifically engineered for homeowners with heavier vehicles. At 4,500 lbs per runway, it comfortably supports full-size pickup trucks, larger SUVs, and heavier sedans that exceed the CL4P7's 7,000 lb limit. The 155-inch maximum wheelbase accommodates extended-cab trucks and full-size SUVs, while the 7-foot 11-inch inside column width handles wider vehicles. Commercial-grade formed steel runways with 20-inch width and built-in rail system accept optional rolling jacks and oil drip trays (sold separately) for convenient light-duty service work.

Installation Requirements & Bay Sizing

The CL4P9S requires a minimum bay size of 11 feet wide by 20 feet long — one foot wider than the CL4P7 to accommodate the wider overall footprint. Challenger recommends a minimum 4-inch thick concrete floor rated at 3,500 PSI (cured at least 28 days) if you choose to bolt down, though anchoring is optional for certification. The power unit requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit — either 110V or 220V depending on motor selection. This lift is rated for indoor use only in environments between 41°F and 104°F. The overall footprint is 17 feet 5½ inches long by 9 feet 4¼ inches wide with a column height of 7 feet ½ inch, so verify your garage ceiling height accommodates the lift plus your vehicle before purchasing.

Before You Buy

Concrete Floor Recommended

Challenger recommends a 4-inch thick concrete floor rated at 3,500 PSI (cured 28+ days) if anchoring. Anchoring is optional — ALI/ETL certification maintained free-standing. Minimum bay size: 11' wide x 20' long.

Dedicated Electrical Circuit Required

The CL4P9S requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit — either 110V for the standard 1HP motor or 220V for the optional 2HP motor. No other devices should share this circuit. Verify your garage panel has an available breaker before ordering.

Indoor Use Only

This lift is rated for indoor use only in environments between 41°F and 104°F. Do not install in outdoor, uncovered, or unheated garage spaces that drop below freezing. Temperature extremes can affect hydraulic fluid performance and cable integrity.

Hydraulic Fluid Not Included

The CL4P9S ships without hydraulic fluid. You will need 10-weight anti-foam hydraulic oil or Dexron III automatic transmission fluid. Purchase fluid before your installation date to avoid delays.

Verify Garage Ceiling Height

Column height is 7 feet ½ inch. Your ceiling must accommodate the column height PLUS the height of the tallest vehicle you plan to store on top. Measure before ordering — especially if storing SUVs or trucks on the upper level.

Professional Installation Recommended

Professional installation is strongly recommended. The lift requires assembly of hydraulic components, cable routing, and electrical connections. Improper installation can affect safety and warranty coverage.

Free Freight Shipping

This lift ships via freight carrier at no additional charge to most commercial addresses in the contiguous United States. Residential deliveries may require additional coordination — contact us for a delivery quote to your home address.

Unloading Requirements — Freight Delivery

This is a heavy 9,000 lb capacity 4-post lift that ships on a freight truck and must be unloaded at the delivery location. A loading dock, forklift, or similar equipment is required. Most residential deliveries will need a liftgate service — contact us before ordering to arrange proper delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Challenger recommends a minimum 4-inch thick concrete floor rated at 3,500 PSI that has been cured for at least 28 days if you plan to anchor the lift. The floor should be level within acceptable tolerances for safe operation. However, anchoring is optional — the CL4P9S maintains its ALI/ETL certification in both free-standing and bolted configurations.
Professional installation is strongly recommended. The CL4P9S is a heavy 9,000 lb capacity lift that requires proper assembly of the hydraulic system, cable routing, and electrical connections. Improper installation can affect safety and void warranty coverage. Challenger recommends using an authorized installer familiar with their equipment.
Regular maintenance includes inspecting cables for wear or fraying, checking hydraulic fluid levels (10-weight anti-foam hydraulic oil or Dexron III ATF — fluid is NOT included with the lift), lubricating lock ladders, and inspecting all mechanical connections. The single hydraulic cylinder and cable system have fewer moving parts than direct-drive lifts, simplifying ongoing maintenance.
All three are 9,000 lb capacity models. The CL4P9S is the standard model (17'5½" long, 9'4¼" wide, 73¼" rise). The CL4P9X extends the length and height (19'5½" long, same width, 85½" rise, 80" clearance). The CL4P9W extends everything including width (19'5½" long, 10'7¼" wide, 9'2" inside columns, 85½" rise). Choose based on your vehicle size, desired clearance height, and available garage space.
No. The CL4P9S uses a single-point manual lock release that operates entirely mechanically — no compressed air is required. This is a major advantage for home garage installation where a shop air compressor may not be available. One handle simultaneously disengages all column locks for controlled lowering.
The CL4P9S-SR (Standard Rise) provides 73¼ inches of maximum rise with 67¾ inches of drive-under clearance. The CL4P9S-ER (Extended Rise) offers additional rise height for taller vehicles or more clearance underneath. Both share the same 9,000 lb capacity, footprint, and feature set — the extended rise version has taller columns.
The CL4P9S accommodates most passenger vehicles and light trucks with a maximum wheelbase of 155 inches and overall width under 7 feet 11 inches (inside column measurement). This covers full-size sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and most extended-cab trucks. For longer vehicles like crew-cab long-bed trucks, consider the CL4P9X or CL4P9W which offer extended runway length and wider column spacing.
The CL4P9S requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit. The standard 1HP motor operates on 115V (standard household outlet), while the optional 2HP motor requires 230V. Rise time is approximately 120 seconds on 115V and 60 seconds on 230V. A dedicated circuit means no other devices should share the breaker.
No. The CL4P9S maintains its full ALI/ETL certification in both free-standing and bolt-to-floor configurations. This is unusual for 4-post lifts and makes the CL4P9S ideal for rental properties, temporary garage setups, or situations where you don't want to drill into your concrete floor.
The CL4P9S offers 2,000 lbs more capacity (9,000 vs 7,000), a larger footprint (17'5½" vs 16'3½" long, 9'4¼" vs 8'4½" wide), wider column spacing (7'11" vs 7'8⅛" inside), longer wheelbase capacity (155" vs 141½"), and more drive-under clearance (67¾" vs 63"). It also features larger columns and base plates for increased stability. The tradeoff is a bigger bay requirement (11'x20' vs 10'x20').
The CL4P9S provides 67¾ inches (5 feet 7¾ inches) of drive-under clearance when in the top locked position. This is nearly 5 inches more than the CL4P7, allowing taller vehicles to park underneath. For even greater clearance, the CL4P9X and CL4P9W extended models offer up to 80 inches of clearance.
Rise time depends on your motor selection. The standard 1HP 115V motor raises the lift in approximately 120 seconds (2 minutes), while the optional 2HP 230V motor cuts that to approximately 60 seconds (1 minute). The 230V motor is better suited if you'll be raising and lowering frequently for service work.
