40,000 lb Heavy-Duty 4-Post Lift — Standard 25' Runways

The Challenger 44040 is a 40,000 lb capacity chain-driven 4-post lift built on the same heavy-duty platform as the 50,000 lb 44050 and 60,000 lb 44060. This standard-length configuration features 25-foot runways that accommodate vehicles with wheelbases up to 310 inches, making it well suited for medium-duty trucks, municipal fleet vehicles, delivery vans, and commercial equipment in the 20-ton class.

Industrial Chain-Driven Design

The 44040 uses a chain-driven lifting system powered by a 10 HP hydraulic power unit with a 20-gallon AW-32 hydraulic reservoir. This system raises the full 40,000 lb rated load through 73 inches of rise in approximately 75 seconds. Pneumatic air locks engage automatically at each lock position, requiring a compressed air supply connected to the lift. The chain-driven design delivers reliable, even lifting across all four runways without the cable maintenance associated with cable-driven systems.

Built for Commercial Facilities

Installation requires a minimum 5-inch thick concrete floor rated at 3,000 PSI and a minimum ceiling height of 16 feet. The lift operates on 230-460V three-phase power at 30 amps, making it appropriate for commercial and industrial facilities with three-phase service. The recommended bay size for this standard-length model is 26 feet 1 inch wide by 42 feet 4 inches deep. This lift is rated for indoor use only.

Platform Specifications

The 44040 measures 205.25 inches wide overall with 144 inches between the columns and 32-inch wide runways. Runway height is 14 inches and overall height reaches 92 inches at full rise. The adjustable runway spacing ranges from 36 to 58 inches between the runways, accommodating a wide range of vehicle track widths.

Three Track Length Options

The 44040 is available in three track lengths to match different vehicle sizes. This standard 25-foot model handles wheelbases up to 310 inches. The 44040E extends to 30-foot runways for wheelbases up to 370 inches, and the 44040X offers 35-foot extra-long runways for wheelbases up to 430 inches. All three share the same 40,000 lb capacity, platform dimensions, and power unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 44040 is rated for 40,000 lbs (20 tons) and handles medium-duty trucks, delivery vans, municipal fleet vehicles, box trucks, and commercial equipment within that weight class. The standard 25-foot runways accommodate wheelbases up to 310 inches.
The 44040 requires 230-460V three-phase power at 30 amps. It also requires a compressed air supply for the pneumatic locking system. This is an industrial lift designed for facilities with commercial electrical service.
The installation site requires a minimum 5-inch thick concrete slab rated at 3,000 PSI compressive strength. The concrete must be properly cured and in good condition without significant cracks or deterioration.
The 44040 raises the full 40,000 lb rated load through 73 inches of rise in approximately 75 seconds using the 10 HP hydraulic power unit.
All three share the same 40,000 lb capacity, platform dimensions, and power unit. The only difference is runway length: the 44040 has 25-foot runways (310-inch max wheelbase), the 44040E has 30-foot runways (370-inch max wheelbase), and the 44040X has 35-foot extra-long runways (430-inch max wheelbase).
The 44040 (40,000 lbs), 44050 (50,000 lbs), and 44060 (60,000 lbs) are all built on the same physical platform with identical dimensions, rise height, and runway options. The primary difference is the rated lifting capacity. The 44040 uses a 10 HP power unit while the 44050 and 44060 use a 15 HP unit.
No. The 44040 is rated for indoor use only. It must be installed in an enclosed facility with a minimum ceiling height of 16 feet.
The 44040 uses AW-32 hydraulic oil in a 20-gallon reservoir. The oil should be checked regularly and changed according to the maintenance schedule in the installation and owner's manual.
Yes. The Challenger 44040 is ALI (Automotive Lift Institute) certified, meaning it has been independently tested and verified to meet ANSI/ALI ALCTV safety standards.
Regular maintenance includes checking hydraulic fluid level and condition, inspecting chains and chain anchors, verifying air lock engagement, lubricating pivot points and rollers, and inspecting the overall structural condition. Consult the owner's manual for the complete maintenance schedule and intervals.
For the standard 25-foot 44040, the recommended bay size is 26 feet 1 inch wide by 42 feet 4 inches deep. The 44040E requires a bay 26'1" x 47'4", and the 44040X requires 26'1" x 52'4".
The inside column dimension is 144 inches (12 feet), providing clearance for wide-body commercial vehicles to drive onto the runways.
The rolling jack (SAJ25) and ramp kit (44RK40) are sold separately as accessories. An air line kit (44AK40) for the pneumatic lock system is also available.
