Challenger CLFP9 — 9,000 lb Open-Top 2-Post Lift

The Challenger CLFP9 is a 9,000 lb capacity ALI-Certified 2-post lift engineered specifically for shops and garages with limited ceiling height. With an overall column height of just 10 ft 7/8 in and a minimum ceiling requirement of only 10 ft 2 in, the CLFP9 fits where taller lifts simply cannot. The open-top column design eliminates the overhead crossbar found on traditional 2-post lifts, providing unrestricted overhead clearance for taller vehicles including trucks, vans, and SUVs. A low-profile drive-over floor plate makes vehicle positioning fast and intuitive, whether in a professional service bay or a home enthusiast garage.

Open-Top, Floor Plate Design

The CLFP9's open-top architecture removes the overhead connecting bar between columns, giving technicians full overhead access and making it easier to work on taller vehicles without obstruction. The floor plate base design provides a stable, fully gusseted platform that increases column rigidity while allowing vehicles to simply drive over the plate for positioning. Unlike in-ground installations, the floor plate mounts directly to a properly prepared concrete slab with no excavation required. The symmetric arm configuration with 3-stage front and 3-stage rear arms delivers a reach range from 24.5 inches minimum to 44.5 inches maximum, accommodating everything from compact cars to full-size trucks and SUVs within the 9,000 lb capacity rating of 2,250 lbs per arm.

Standard Equipment

Every CLFP9 comes standard with premium double-telescoping screw pads that adjust from 4 inches to approximately 6 inches, minimizing the need for aftermarket adapters on most vehicles. The dual-point mechanical pull-lock cable release system allows the technician to disengage column locks from each side of the lift independently. Plated arm restraints and arm pins resist rust and provide long-lasting durability, while the powder coat finish protects the columns and base plates against chips and corrosion. Standard dual integrated rubber door guards help protect vehicle door panels from inadvertent contact during service. The electric/hydraulic power unit features heavy-duty chain lifting operation with cable equalization to ensure smooth, even rises and reduce ceiling height requirements.

Installation Requirements

The CLFP9 requires a minimum ceiling height of 10 ft 2 in and a recommended bay size of 14 ft wide by 24 ft deep with at least 6 ft clearance to the nearest wall or obstruction on each side. The standard power unit operates on 208-230V single-phase 20-amp service with a dedicated circuit and disconnect switch. An optional 3-phase power unit is available for 208V, 230V, or 460V configurations at 50/60Hz. The concrete floor must be at least 4 inches thick, reinforced, free from cracks and seams, rated at 3,500 psi minimum, and cured for at least 28 days. Indoor installation only.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Challenger CLFP9 requires a minimum ceiling height of 10 ft 2 in (121 7/8 in to the overhead shut-off switch). This makes it one of the lowest ceiling height requirements among Challenger's 2-post lift lineup, making it ideal for home garages and shops with limited overhead clearance.
The CLFP9 has a total lifting capacity of 9,000 lbs, distributed evenly across four arms at 2,250 lbs per arm. This capacity is sufficient for most passenger cars, light trucks, vans, and SUVs. The lift is ALI Certified to the ANSI/ALI ALCTV safety standard.
The open-top design means the CLFP9 does not have a crossbar connecting the tops of the two columns. Traditional 2-post lifts use an overhead beam for structural support, but the CLFP9 achieves stability through its fully gusseted floor plate base design instead. This gives you unrestricted overhead clearance, making it easier to work on taller vehicles like trucks and SUVs, and eliminates any overhead obstruction in the service bay.
A floor plate lift uses a low-profile steel plate that sits on top of the concrete floor and connects the two columns at the base. Vehicles simply drive over this plate for positioning. Unlike in-ground anchor-only installations, the floor plate provides additional structural rigidity through its fully gusseted base design. The CLFP9's floor plate is low-profile enough for easy drive-over positioning in any service bay.
The standard CLFP9 power unit requires 208-230V single-phase, 60Hz service with a 20-amp dedicated circuit and a disconnect switch within sight of the lift. An optional 3-phase power unit is available for 208V, 230V, or 460V configurations at 50/60Hz for shops with 3-phase power available.
The CLFP9 requires a concrete floor that is at least 4 inches thick, reinforced, free from cracks and seams, rated at a minimum of 3,500 psi compressive strength, and cured for at least 28 days. The floor must be level within 3/8 of an inch over the installation area, and no anchor bolts can be placed within 8 inches of any crack, edge, or expansion joint. If your existing slab doesn't meet these requirements, a concrete pad can be poured specifically for the lift installation.
The CLFP9 reaches full rise height of 78 1/8 inches (6 ft 5 7/8 in) in approximately 50 seconds using the standard 2HP single-phase motor. Lowering speed varies depending on the weight of the vehicle being serviced.
The Challenger CLFP9 is available in two colors: Textured Red and Textured Blue. Both feature Challenger's durable powder coat finish for long-lasting protection against chips and corrosion.
Yes, the Challenger CLFP9 is ALI Certified to the ANSI/ALI ALCTV safety standard and ETL Listed for electrical safety compliance. ALI Certification means the lift has been independently tested and validated by the Automotive Lift Institute to meet rigorous performance and safety requirements.
Challenger recommends a service bay that is at least 14 ft wide and 24 ft deep, with a minimum of 6 ft clearance from the columns to the nearest wall or obstruction on each side. The lift's overall width is 11 ft 5 1/2 in with an inside column distance of 109 inches and drive-thru clearance of 8 ft 2 3/16 in.

The CLFP9 requires daily visual checks for loose or broken parts, hydraulic leaks, and adapter wear. Weekly, inspect synchronizer cables, sheaves, and lock release cable adjustment. Monthly, torque all concrete anchor bolts to 80 ft-lbs, lubricate carriage slide tracks with heavy viscous grease on all four corners of both columns, and inspect the concrete floor for cracks within 12 inches of the base plates. Always use genuine Challenger Lifts replacement parts.
